Explore our Hydro-meteorological Services
The Sierra Leone Meteorological Agency (SLMet), in partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources, operates a comprehensive network of automated hydrologic and meteorological monitoring stations throughout Sierra Leone to provide critical water and weather information for effective water resource management. Our hydro-meteorological monitoring system, known as Hydromet, uses advanced remote data collection platforms that transmit real-time water level, rainfall, and environmental data via radio and satellite communications to support flood forecasting, drought monitoring, water supply management, and reservoir operations. This integrated approach combines meteorological observations with hydrological data to deliver timely information that helps communities, government agencies, and water managers make informed decisions about water security, flood preparedness, and sustainable water resource utilization across the country.
Our Services
What We Do
Real-time Water Level Monitoring
We operate automated monitoring stations that continuously track water levels in rivers, reservoirs, and key water bodies, providing essential data for flood warning systems and water supply management.
Rainfall and Streamflow Analysis
Our network measures precipitation and river flow data across different watersheds, enabling accurate assessment of water availability and flood risk conditions throughout Sierra Leone.
Flood Forecasting and Early Warning
We provide timely flood forecasts and issue early warnings to communities and authorities when dangerous water levels are expected, helping protect lives and property.
Drought Monitoring and Water Security Assessment
Our specialists track rainfall patterns and water storage levels to monitor drought conditions and assess water security for different regions and sectors.
Reservoir and Dam Operations Support
We deliver critical hydrological data and forecasts to support safe and efficient operations of reservoirs, dams, and water infrastructure across the country.
Water Resource Data Services
We provide comprehensive hydrological and meteorological datasets, maps, and publications through platforms like the Salone Water Security Project to support research, planning, and water management decisions.
